Overview
Serre Chevalier has four ski sectors: Briançon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Le Monêtier-les-Bains. The operator advertises 250 kilometres of slopes, but for choosing accommodation the most useful question is which base suits your daily plan. A resort-wide search can obscure the distance between the property, your chosen school and your intended lift. For a group containing beginners, check the particular learning area rather than relying on the size of the whole ski area. The official guide describes discovery facilities in all four sectors, with different arrangements at village level and at altitude. Make a shortlist around the meeting point or lift you will use most. Compare those properties for the actual walk, equipment storage, food shopping and how non-skiers would spend the day. Then consider how often your group would need to travel elsewhere in the valley.
Planning your stay
For an early or late trip, check the specific sector's planned dates before booking. Confirm openings again before travel. When arranging lessons, give the school the accommodation address and ask where the course meets. Compare the appropriate beginner or sector product with a full-area pass rather than assuming one product fits everyone. For arrival by train, investigate Briançon or Oulx, including the final connection to your exact address. Keep your departure transfer in the plan from the start.
Frequently asked
Planning Serre Chevalier
Which Serre Chevalier base should I choose?
Choose around your daily routine. Identify the lesson meeting point or lift you expect to use, check the route from accommodation, then compare shopping and non-ski plans. A valley-wide resort name is not enough to judge convenience.
Can first-time skiers use all four sectors?
The official beginner guide describes discovery areas in each sector. Their location and access differ, so ask your school where you will start and what pass is needed; check current opening information.
Do all four sectors have the same season dates?
No. For 2026–27 the operator plans Briançon from 12 December to 4 April, and the other three sectors from 5 December to 18 April. All dates are subject to change and snow conditions.
